I found the 10th anniversary of the massive Canterbury and, particularly, Christchurch earthquakes very emotional, so Iâm just going to speak from the heart. Yesterday, I was honoured to be able to attend the 10th anniversary of the 2011 quakes on the 22nd of February. Along with me were Gerry Brownlee, who seemed to spend much of his Cabinet time dealing with and trying to resurrect Christchurch from not only the ashes but, actually, the liquefactionâan enormous contributionâNicola Grigg and Matt Doocey were there, former Ministers Nicky Wagner and Kate Wilkinson were there. All were people who I well remember around the Cabinet table doing their very best for Christchurch. ....

Lawrence Gullery/Stuff Clive Meddings holding a picture book his daughter Selina made for his 90th birthday. The picture to the left is of him as he went away to war. Meddings was born in Hull, England, when his parents were there visiting family. They returned to New Zealand and he was one of six siblings who grew up in Levin. Meddings didn’t care much for school and “couldn’t wait to get out of it”. He worked for a few years at a grocery shop before war broke out in Europe, for a second time. “I was 18 when I signed up to go to war. I had to put my age up a bit so I told them I was 21. ....
Friday, 11 December, 2020 - 11:59 Grandparents have provided the aerial and medical inspiration for Sam Percival to join the Royal New Zealand Air Force as a medic. He has just completed two-and-a-half years of training and study at Defence Health School based at Burnham Military Camp. He also received the RNZAF top student award at graduation. Aircraftman Percival, 24, who was born in Britain but moved to Auckland when he was 13, said his grandfather, who served in the British Army, was a huge influence in his decision to join the Air Force. As a young boy he would take me to the Farnborough Air Shows. ....
