Burlington Public Library announces new director

Burlington, IA- The Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees has announced the hiring of the next Library Director. The board has announced that Brittany R Jacobs has been hired for the role. Jacobs is currently the Manager of Outreach and Program Services for the library and came to Burlington after serving in public library systems in Denver, Colorado and Naperville, Illinois. Jacobs will take over as director on October 3rd. Originally from Chicagoland, Jacobs received her Masters's of Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois. She has authored and illustrated several children's books, serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Afterschool Matters academic journal, and recently completed the Iowa Library Association Leadership Institute. Burlington citizens help create policy on city's boards and commissions

It might be the members of the Burlington City Council who make the decisions for the city, but nearly 100 citizens help advise the city on everything from the riverfront to downtown parking.
Burlington has 19 committees comprised of citizens, business owners and city representatives, who act as an ex-officio members of the boards or commissions to which they are assigned.
Those boards really generate a lot of the really infant ideas that end up becoming policy within the city, councilman Matt Rinker explained.
One of the ways an idea becomes a policy, Rinker said, is by kicking over a council idea to the pertinent committee. From there, committee members can review it and create recommendations for what they think the council should do. ....
