On the day Broward school board member-elect Rod Velez was to be sworn in, Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order Thursday ordering the official.
Just as Rod Velez indicated he would be sworn into the Broward County School Board Thursday morning, following a months-long saga over his eligibility, Gov. Ron DeSantis declared the seat vacant and appointed Daniel Foganholi to it. "I'm going to continue to fight," Velez said.
The new, elected Broward school board began to undo some of the damage the DeSantis-appointed board did in siphoning money off to charter schools, but controversy remains in questions over one of the electeds' criminal history and what to do about the school superintendent that the DeSantis board wrongly fired.
The winners will represent a district that has undergone extreme upheaval since Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended and replaced four School Board members three days after the last election.
