Federal satellite sites move to Carver & Oceanway centers for 10 days

Two vaccination centers run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency opened Sunday morning in Duval County.
The satellite sites moved from the Westside and Northwest Jacksonville to the Carver Center on 5th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach and the Oceanway Center on Sago Avenue West on the Northside.
According to FEMA, the sites will open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for 10 days through March 23. The sites will offer the Pfizer vaccine, and up to 500 shots can be administered a day at each site. ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A car smashed into a home early Saturday morning in the Harborview neighborhood, off Lem Turner Road.
“It felt like a bomb exploded to be honest with you,” said a resident who lives inside the home with his family. He asked for his name not to be published with this story. “A big bomb exploded and everything went everywhere.”
Pieces of concrete and debris could be seen all over the front and side of the property. Electrical wires were down, and JEA had to cut off power and running water until repairs could be made. The family has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money to help with the cost of repairing the home. ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – 18 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in Jacksonville will begin administering doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to shoppers on Friday morning.
Governor Ron DeSantis said 119 Walmart stores across 34 Florida counties that will offer the shot to seniors.
There was a mix-up with Walmart bookings earlier this week. The company mistakenly allowed Floridians with comorbidities, but under 65 to make appointments. Walmart plans to honor those appointments but will have restrictions in place going forward.
The company released this statement after the scheduling mix-up: “Walmart is working to align our scheduling system with the specific populations the state has asked us to vaccinate under the federal retail pharmacy partnership. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – When the doors opened at 9 a.m., more than 100 people were waiting to get their COVID-19 shot Friday morning at the Clanzel T. Brown Senior Center on Moncrief Road.
Some opted to continue to wait in line while others took a voucher that allowed them to return later in the day for their dose.
By 12:30 p.m., about 300 vaccines had been administered. Many of the seniors said they were pleased the city had opened the center for vaccines, even if supply is limited. They said everything went fairly smoothly and no issues were reported. ....
