Martin holding rally in Plainville to protest proposed gas tax

PLAINVILLE – Following a rally in Bristol which saw wide turnout, Sen. Henri Martin is now asking the Plainville community to join him Saturday in protesting proposed gas price increases which he says are “regressive taxes” that will negatively impact low to moderate income working people.
The rally will be held at 10 a.m. at 136 E. Main St., at the corner of CT-10 and CT-372. Martin has previously held rallies in Bristol, Thomaston and other local communities which he said have drawn as many as 50 participants and received numerous honks of support from passing motorists. He has also collected more than 7,500 protest signatures toward his 10,000 goal in about a month. ....

SOUTHINGTON – Southington, like many communities, faced many challenges in 2020 and had its share of losses. However, community members were still able to band together and accomplish their goals.
Here are the Top 5 Stories of the Year for Southington:
TOPS MARKETPLACE REOPENS
Prior to the coronavirus, the talk of the town in Southington often included the March 3, 2019 fire at Tops Marketplace which gutted the building that had been a community fixture since 1951. This March, thanks to an outpouring of community support for the philanthropic owners, John Salerno and Betsy Tooker were able to reopen.
Salerno and Tooker have been active supporters of local schools, churches and nonprofit organizations for many years. That dedication to the community was recognized and people stepped up to provide support during their hour of need. Once reopened, Tops Marketplace was able to provide much-needed supplies at the start o ....
