However, community members were still able to band together and accomplish their goals. Here are the Top 5 Stories of the Year for Southington: TOPS MARKETPLACE REOPENS Prior to the coronavirus, the talk of the town in Southington often included the March 3, 2019 fire at Tops Marketplace which gutted the building that had been a community fixture since 1951. This March, thanks to an outpouring of community support for the philanthropic owners, John Salerno and Betsy Tooker were able to reopen. Salerno and Tooker have been active supporters of local schools, churches and nonprofit organizations for many years. That dedication to the community was recognized and people stepped up to provide support during their hour of need.
