This is a live look right now at the ntsb hearing which is now under way in washington. A panel is discussing the cause of that crash. This is actually in Philadelphia City council. Nbc10s Pamela Osborne spoke to attorneys of the victims and their families ahead of the briefing. She joins us live from center city. What did they have to say . Theyre saying this is want just a matter of distraction. They noted the man sped the train up and suddenly tried to slow it down. Because of that, they say it was a conscious act of recklessness, one they tell me they hope the ntsb takeinize to consideration. The families and the victims are looking for the answer
Theres a flood watch posted across the Central Counties of region. Brought in a few minutes ago. Also happening very soon investigators want Start Talking to the trains crew as well as passenger. Take a look at a video taken by ntsb on the scene at the crash site. This is a very, very developing investigation right now. What we know at this point is just how fast this train was traveling before the accident. It was actually speeding down these tracks at more than twice the limit. Ntsb says train was traveling at 106 miles an hour coming in a sharp curve in the track. The the trains engineer did apply thee mergecy brake but just moments before, not enough time to slow down this train. Limit there is just 70 miles an hour. Trains black box and front mounted camera have been recovered and they but the Big Questions remain, what was this engineer doing and why was he going so fast.
