Another positive case at Barrie Transit has the union and the City of Barrie asking for their workers to get the vaccine as soon as possible. There are now seven positive cases among Barrie Transit staff, according to their union, which is up from six reported on Sunday. Affected drivers are isolating at home. Cory Trew, president and business agent for the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1775 in Barrie, said on Monday there are upwards of 200 employees within Barrie Transit, including approximately 175 drivers and maintenance workers who are represented by the union. While seven may not be a large number out of 200 workers, Trew still wants protection immediately for the people the union represent. ....
BARRIE, ONT. A third Barrie Transit driver has tested positive for COVID-19. The City of Barrie says it was notified Wednesday about the test results, and the driver is following health directions and isolating. Barrie Transit continues to do everything we can to ensure a safe environment for our riders and employees, says Brent Forsyth, Director of Transit and Parking Strategy. Two other bus drivers tested positive last week. The city says they, too, are isolating at home. The bus routes involved are not being disclosed, but the city says all buses are sanitized twice a day. The city says Barrie Transit drivers do not have to wear a face mask because they are separated from the public by plexiglass shields. ....
In order to be transparent to the community, the City of Barrie is sharing the following information out of an abundance of caution. The City was notified this evening that a Barrie Transit operator received a positive COVID-19 test result today. The bus operator is following public health directions and isolating. All buses are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after service each day and receive additional mid-day sanitization to further improve safety measures. Barrie Transit is not aware of any workplace transmission at this time. As the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit advises on an ongoing basis, everyone in the community should follow Health Unit guidelines, self-monitor, and get tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms. ....
