BARRIE, ONT. The COVID-19 outbreak at Barrie Transit that disrupted service on several routes has been declared over. The health unit declared the outbreak on April 15 after two confirmed cases among transit staff were found to be linked. Following that, at least seven more staff members tested positive for the virus. The workplace outbreak impacted bus routes and even resulted in the temporary cancellation of route 100. Riders were told to expect longer than usual wait times as multiple drivers went into isolation. In a release on Friday, the City of Barrie stated all buses were back up and running.

The City of Barrie said there would be no service on route 100 until further notice, while routes 1 and 6 would experience a temporary reduction in frequency on routes. The city said riders could expect longer wait times on these routes and suggested checking MyRide before leaving for the bus. Last week, the health unit declared an outbreak at Barrie Transit after two confirmed cases were found to be linked. Forsyth said there doesn t appear to be a connection between the rest of the cases.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared a workplace outbreak at Barrie Transit on Thursday, believing there could be a link between two cases. A spokesperson for the city of Barrie says the three latest cases have not been linked to the previous three, and they believe the risk of virus spread is low. Barrie Transit is operating at its usual service levels but with twice daily cleaning of buses.
