The Titans got the start they needed on Monday night as they hit early 3’s and got some stops. Brennan Holder and Eli Wheelock knocked down deep three’s and Joshua Dietrich was outstanding inside with 6 points and 3 rebounds early as the Titans built a 17-8 lead with just over 2:00 left in the 1st quarter. Boyden Hull turned a couple steals into points to end the 1st quarter and their 8-0 run cut the Titan lead to 17-16. The Comets grabbed their first lead early in the 2nd quarter but SCC answered with a bucket and went up 22-18. For the second time in the half the Comets answered with a double digit run 11-0 and went ahead for good. They lead 29-22 after the run. The Titans got a bucket just before half but Boyden Hull answered with an offensive rebound and put back just before the buzzer and led 33-26 at half. ....
South Central Calhoun boys will head to the State Boys Basketball Tournament for the first time in school history after pulling away in the 4 th quarter to beat Iowa Falls Alden. The Titans seniors qualified for state in football and made it their mission to get to Wells Fargo Arena. That mission came true with a 24-16 4 th quarter that started with Brennan Holder hitting a 3, putting them ahead 43-40. The Cadets pulled within 1 at 43-42 but the Titans stretched the lead 50-42. Cole Corey and T’Juan Hildreth knocked down free throws down the stretch as the Titans were able to run clock and spread the floor. ....
Kuemper at OABCIG- Class 2A District 1 OABCIG: 79 Kuemper: 63 The Kuemper Knights were able to go toe to toe with the 19-1 OABCIG Falcons in the Substate 1 quarter final match, but fell short in the fourth quarter on Thursday night. The hometown Falcons would start off the contest with a huge 25 point performance, thanks to Cooper DeJean, who scored 11 points in the first quarter. The Knights would see some early success from the three point line, sinking three from behind the arc and scoring 14 points in the first quarter. The second quarter is where the Knights started to come alive and get back in this contest. The Knights were able to be brought to the free throw line a total of four times making seven of their eight free throws. Mayhall would be fouled as time expired by DeJean and would make the two free throws to end the second quarter and cut down the Falcon’s 10 point lead to six at 38-32. ....
The Carroll Tigers were able to add another win to their impressive season with a strong showing against the Carlisle Wildcats. The Tigers would start off the battle of the big cats with a closer than expected first quarter with the Tigers taking a 19-13 lead. The six point Carroll lead would turn into 16 by halftime at 38-22. Kaleb Booth would lead the Tigers with nine first half points.
The points would continue to come and the defense would get stronger for the Tigers in the second half. They would keep the Wildcats to seven third quarter points while they packed on 17 points in the third. The Tigers would have a closer fourth quarter as their bench players would get some playing time. The Tigers would still come out on top in the fourth quarter going 19-16 and winning this contest 74-45. ....
The Carroll Tigers continued their dominant ways by adding another victory to their undefeated season, beating Boone on Tuesday night. Right out of the gate, the Tigers dominated the Toreadors and never gave up the lead. The Tigers would escape the first quarter scoring 20 points and left Boone with only seven points. In the second quarter, it was much of the same dominant basketball from the top ranked team in the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers left no room for the Toreadors to score leaving them with six points as they would go on to score 14 before the halftime. The lopsided score was in favor of Carroll by a score of 34-13. ....
