Nominations are open for the City of Fremantle’s Sealin Garlett Community Leadership Award. The award honours the late Reverend Sealin Garlett, who was an outstanding contributor towards reconciliation both to the Nyoongar community and non-Aboriginal community of Perth. The City of Fremantle created the award in collaboration with the Walyalup Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group to celebrate the achievements of a community member who has demonstrated outstanding contributions in reconciliation and community leadership. To be eligible for the Sealin Garlett Award, the person nominated must be of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent; connected to the City of Fremantle by volunteering, residing, working or studying within the City; and have demonstrated achievements in community leadership and reconciliation. People cannot nominate themselves. ....
Date Time Council to consider Booyeembara Park plan Fremantle Council will this week consider a new plan to guide the future development of popular Booyeembara Park. The land that is now affectionately known as Boo Park was used as a limestone quarry during the 1800s and an unregulated landfill site from the 1960s through to the 1980s. Its restoration into a beautiful public park began in 1992, with the original masterplan for the area adopted in 1999. Fremantle Deputy Mayor Andrew Sullivan said the significant changes happening in the areas immediately surrounding Boo Park made it a good time to revisit the plan. ....
