Answering that question, though the topic of my talk invites the question. Part of what i think, what i find striking about baldwins mention there is just that part of the reference where he says the past has disappeared which is to say baldwin is saying black men have never really been able to have the experience of having fathers in the United States. And that is not, and that legacy and heritage is nothing new. And its really in some ways not a choice. Its an a tradition that had been imposed firstly by outside that created a kind of reality.
