a senior u.s. official tells cnn that russian forces are making incremental advances there. meantime, another mass grave was discovered friday in the kyiv suburb of bucha. 900 civilians have already been found dead in the kyiv region, in the wake of russian forces pulling out. russia s focus is now on the eastern donbas region. ukrainian president, volodymyr zelenskyy, says moscow s aim is to kill everyone living there. translator: only if ukraine would stand, will they live. if the russian invaders succeed in realizing their plan, at least in part, they will still have enough artillery and aircraft to destroy the entire donbas just as they destroyed mariupol. the city, which is one of the most developed in the region, is simply a russian concentration camp in the middle of ruins. the situation, also, growing evermore dire for mariupol s last defenders holed up in that steel plant along with hundreds of civilians. for more, let s turn to isa soares in lviv, ukraine.
tornado touched down in the wichita area yesterday, damaging hopes, cars and at least 50 to 100 buildings there. the worst damage happened in the town of andover where authorities say most of the roads are closed. with the sun now up in kansas, authorities will be able to get a much more detailed and closer look at the damage. last night, andover s fire chief laid out the tough task ahead. we know that there was a direct tornado strike that started in sedgewick county and travelled into andover. we had many buildings in andover take very tough damage. total in the path there were 966 buildings, we believe. we do not have a damage assessment on how many of those were damaged. all right. cnn meteorologist allison chin c char joining us now. we know at least 14 tornadoes were reported across kansas and nebraska. the threat is not yet over. what do we know? yeah, that s right. the same system is continuing to move on. it s been a very active past 24 hour. as you mentioned
equipment that is being promised and indeed delivered from nato and from the united states and other nato countries coming to this arguably the most important battlefront in terms of the ukrainian defense against the russian invaders. so they re going after those very important railway lines with these bombardments. i have to say on top of that, though, the railway bridge that links leman to the other side of the donetsk river was also blown today. it s not clear, though, jake, whether it was the ukrainians or the russians that blew it because we do know that the ukrainians do have a tactic of blowing bridges in order to slow russian advances. they are going to use in all probability the donetsk river as a line of defense if it comes to that. there have been very substantial troop movements among the ukrainians on the ukrainian side throughout this region over the last 24 hours. and clearly an effort at least at re-enforcement is under way. a lot of movement of troops. a lot
