Former Homestead star Ben Skowronek became the latest Fort Wayne native to reach the NFL this afternoon, getting selected in the seventh round of the draft by the Los Angeles Rams with the 249th overall pick.
With Skowronek s selection, the Summit City has had a draft pick in three of the last four drafts as the wide receiver out of Notre Dame joined Carroll s Drue Tranquill (2020 fourth round to the Chargers) and Snider s Jessie Bates III (2018 third round to the Bengals). Bishop Luers wide receiver Austin Mack made the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and Bluffton product D Wayne Eskridge was also picked in the second round of this year s draft by the Seahawks. ....

The 2020 Butkus Award winner as the best linebacker in the country is the third Notre Dame player off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah went to the Cleveland Browns in the second round with the 52nd overall pick.
Owusu-Koramoah is maybe the most decorated player to come out of Notre Dame since fellow Butkus Award-winner Jaylon Smith, a Bishop Luers graduate. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Owusu-Koramoah was a unanimous First-Team All-American and was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, as well as a finalist for the Nagurski and Bednarik Awards, given to the best defensive player in the country, both of which went to Tulsa s Zaven Collins. ....

Area teens to star in PBS TV series


Students from across northern Indiana will be featured in a new television series that will premiere Saturday on WFWA TV-39.4.
The original series, known as TBH, or text-speak for To Be Honest, is shot, written, acted, reported, directed and edited by up-and-coming filmmakers and journalists ages 12-19.
To Be Honest Inc., is a nonprofit student film organization. Its goal is to increase and improve community understanding of social and cultural issues.
Supported in part by the Indiana Arts Commission, the project features students from Garrett High School, Hamilton Junior-Senior High School, Oak Farm Montessori School, Prairie Heights High School and the Cahoots Coffee Cafe after-school program in Angola. ....
