A rendering of the Hammock Harbor redevelopment proposed for the 4 acres next to Hammock Hardware. The building would be larger than the White House or the proposed Sheriff’s Operations Center in Bunnell. The 240-boat storage facility proposed for a 4-acre parcel on the Intracoastal in the Hammock two years ago ran into its latest setback tonight as the county planning board refused to define the facility as a marina, as its developer wants to do–not yet, anyway. The board, in a unanimous vote directed the county administration to draft an ordinance that would define the word “marina” and bring it back to the board for a work session within 60 days. Flagler County government has filed suit to condemn and demolish the long-derelict, yellowed motel that’s vexed law enforcement, residents and county code enforcement officials for years near Dixie Commons along South Old Dixie Highway, not far from the interchange with I-95. The property owners have stopped responding to the county’s attempts to resolve the problem amicably, refusing to acknowledge so much as a letter that was to be handed to them in person last month. ....
Law enforcement divers recovered the body of 18-year-old Flagler County resident Ritchy Volmar in the Intracoastal Waterway Feb. 25 after a jet ski accident. The search began the previous day, after Volmar and a friend were riding on a jet ski together near Bings Landing and were both thrown from the watercraft, according to the FCSO. Volmar, who was not wearing a life vest, disappeared into the water. The friend, who was wearing a life vest, searched for him, but didn t find him. The friend called 911 at 2:34 p.m. and showed law enforcement officers where the accident occurred. The friend that called 911 told us that [Volmar] could swim, so there must have been a reason that he was unable to recover from being thrown off, Flagler County Sheriff s Office Public Affairs Manager Brittany Kershaw said. He wasn’t sure if he was hurt. ....
