Northeast, again, all your big hubs, new york, boston, philadelphia, d.c. tomorrow we start to see more and more airports start to be impacted because the next system which will start in the southeast, tennessee, georgia, alabama, that begins to slide into the mid-atlantic and eventually into the northeast. now you have cities like cincinnati, atlanta, charlotte, all of those starting to become impacted as well. the key thing to note is all that extra rain from this next system may actually be the final straw to push the cities over the threshold. what are we talking about? to the rainiest year on record, all these red dots you see here have already hit that record. all the green dots, over 70 of them, are likely to hit their wettest year on record by the time we finish out this year. that next system that s approaching for tomorrow is likely going to be the one to push people over that threshold. here s the thing, look at some of these cities already. wilmington has had over 100 inche ....
Baltimore and washington, d.c., also breaking their record for rainfall for the year. so any additional moisture on top of this really is likely going to cause concerns. those aren t the only ones. again, we talked about over 70 cities. look at the map. the red dots have broken the record. the green dots are likely to by the timy with finish the year by the time we finish the year. we have the other storm on the horizon,ing that good-b ing tht the additional moisture. the system is moving into the pacific northwest but also the northeast. big hubs, new york, boston, d.c., philadelphia, those are going to be big concerns. tomorrow, however, as that next system begins to push from the southeast through states like massachusetts and maine, you re now going to have even more delays. unfortunately, cities like cincinnati, atlanta, and charlotte which may be okay for today are likely going to have much bigger impacts tomorrow. so if you have flexibility, ....
They were now getting their flights under way. this lasted about a couple of hours, they say. american airlines says that the first problems were noted around noon eastern time, and that at 12:30 they asked the faa to impose a ground halt for planes headed to and from american airlines planes headed to and from o hare, miami and dallas/ft. worth, three of their big hubs. at about 2:00, a little before 2:00 eastern, they we ve got word that some planes were taking off again from both nbc news producers who are traveling today and other nbc news colleagues who were traveling today, there s a family traveling today. they aren t telling us yet exactly what the problem was, but it was a relatively brief problem, certainly briefer than the problems that other airlines have had with computers this summer. thomas? we ll continue to watch this ....
