The Pavilion of the Netherlands at the 2021 Venice Biennale Deconstructs Typical Public Spaces

Titled Who is We , the Pavilion of the Netherlands at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia deconstructs normal concepts of space, visualizing what is often overlooked behind the structures that typically define urban spaces. Curated by a team led by Francien van Westrenen, the pavilion will be on display from 22 May to 21 November 2021.
To answer the question of ‘How will we live together?’, the pavilion of the Netherlands explains that current social and environmental circumstances demand that architects and urbanists regard ‘
we’ as a more pluralized pronoun that encompasses all humans and more-than-humans such as soil, plants and animals . And although the knowledge and approach required for this transformation have been defined in the past, they are largely marginalized by the architectural canon. ....

Pakistan Pavilion at the 2021 Venice Biennale Discovers New Architectural Typologies Inspired by Weddings

Titled Mapping Festivities , the Pakistan Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, explores the national wedding hall as an architectural typology of post-colonial Pakistan. Curated by Sara M. Anwar, the pavilion will be on display on the second floor of the Palazzo Mora from May 22nd until November 21st.
The Shaadi Hall is a traditional Pakistani typology that serves the wedding ‘performance’ which first appeared in the early 1980s to address the needs of the fast-growing population of the city of Karachi. Residential villas were transformed into wedding spaces through architectural interventions such as billboard-inspired entrance façades, which created a perforated layer between the space of the city and the newly-implemented space. ....

"Utopias of Common Life": Brazil's Official Participation in the Venice Biennale 2021

utopias of common life, Brazil s official participation in the 17th Bienalle Architettura 2021 is curated by the collaborative studio Arquitetos Associados and the visual designer Henrique Penha. The exhibition at the Brazilian Pavilion in the Giardini, in Venice, begins by mapping utopias that exist on Brazilian soil, from the Guarani world vision of a Land Without Evil to contemporary times, highlighting a few singular moments among them.
Conceived before the Covid-19 pandemic, which has temporarily suspended the possibility of physical proximity in a large part of the world, the proposal gains new meanings in the current context and dialogues with the overall theme, by curator Hashim Sarkis:  ....
