President erdogan. it s going to be equally contentious. if you look at the relationship between biden and erdogan, they have long been at odds with one another. president trump had a good relationship with president erdogan but that has changed in a big way. you have president biden speaking out quite locally about president erdogan s move towards authoritarianism. at the same time you have big issues like turkey pulling away from nato, pulling away from europe. in fact he has not only said that he s becoming closer to russia but is also recently purchased the s400 missile defense system from him while at the same time still trying to buy an active fighter jets from the u.s. it s going to be fascinating to seal it out. a test run for the meeting but president putin and president biden have together. there s a lot of issues on the agenda. one of the ones we will be discussing is afghanistan. it s no secret that many nato countries do not want to pull out of afghanistan. president biden
Interesting to see if that funding stays at the same level. after president trump s term, nader was receiving $130 billion a year as a result of the push on certain countries. three countries are meeting the 2% minimum. canada, the u.s. and the u.k. we have that number at ten countries. mainly the baltic states, feeling that threat from russia. whether or not that stays at 2% will have to see. president biden in his conversation today said they were going to continue to get the funds coming in and jan stoltenberg said he was clear he was grateful for the 400 billion plus that have come to nato during the trump years. stoltenberg is leaving quite soon. he hasn t been shy to speak his mind and say it s been a positive thing. biden has been here first and foremost to show his commitment to nato, to say that america is back. it s going to be interesting to see whether or not that passes onto the other nation-states
