His partners are Rafiq Salim and Paul Wetzel, previously sous-chefs at Gramercy, and Ben Howell, who was a bar manager there and is overseeing front of the house. Beyond Sushi: $1.5 Million Shark Tank Deal Fell Through Beyond Sushi is a vegan restaurant chain serving plant-based sushi. The entrepreneur behind the business, Chef Guy Vaknin, pitched Beyond Sushi on Season 10 of Shark Tank. He went into the Tank seeking an investment to expand his New York City business to the West Coast. He asked for $1.5 million in exchange for 25 percent equity of his West Coast operations and five percent of his East Coast operations.
