Crews imploded the smokestack at the former Beckjord power station. The structure had stood for nearly 70 years, initially built in the early 1950s and decommissioned in 2014. The power-generating facility was originally built by Cinergy, which was bought by Duke Energy in 2006. The facility was initially slated to shutter in 2015, but was escalated in wake of a diesel fuel spill into the Ohio River. In 2014, a failed tank-to-tank transfer at Beckjord Power Plant led to approximately 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled into the river.Friday’s implosion closed
