Redskins pull away from Rockets in the 4th, 47-35 BY YANEEK SMITH, BEACON CONTRIBUTOR PORT CLINTON Da’Cariya Lanier and Olivia Jackson have been Port Clinton’s top scorers all season long, and the duo scored a combined 13 points in the fourth quarter of the Redskins 47-35 win over Oak Harbor. Lanier scored seven points in the final eight minutes, and Jackson scored six. Port Clinton (5-14, 3-7 Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division) led 28-25 after three quarters before its defense took over in the fourth quarter. “It started defensively. We were able to apply some pressure, they took some tough shots and we got some steals and some easy looks,” said Port Clinton coach Lucas Kennedy. “They had to pressure us a little bit, and that gave Da’Cariya and Olivia some open lanes.”

Port Clinton girls topple Danbury, 51-36 FROM STAFF REPORTS PORT CLINTON Port Clinton lifted its play in the middle two quarters and defeated rival Danbury, 51-36. The Redskins led 10-9 after the first quarter and outscored the Lakers 27-16 in the middle two quarters to take a 37-25 lead into the fourth. “Port Clinton played a more aggressive game. We struggled putting the ball in the basket, plus Port Clinton didn’t give us many good looks,” said Danbury coach Dick Heller.Da’Cariya Lanier scored 24 points to lead all scorers, including 11 in the middle two quarters, and Olivia Jackson finished with 14 points.

Oak Harbor boys lead SBC with 50-43 victory FROM STAFF REPORTS OAK HARBOR In the biggest game of the season, Oak Harbor answered the call to defeat Willard, 50-43, and earn a spot atop the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division standings. The Rockets (8-6, 6-1 SBC Bay) held off a late rally by the Crimson Flashes for the win. Oak Harbor led 40-34 after three quarters and Willard (10-5, 5-2) got within one point at 44-43 before committing some costly turnovers. Blake Booker and T.J. Hallett hit four free throws in the final 32 seconds as the Rockets slowly pulled away.
