[applause] we hope you enjoyed todays ceremony. Thank you very much for coming. We are honored to welcome nearly 500 people from the air force and marines and merchant marine. This event was conceived in large part to recognize the contributions they made it to ultimate victory in europe and the pacific. Several will be on board the aircraft participating in the flyover. He is now 96 years old and still an active pilot in alaska. He drove here from alaska by himself and will be on board one of the b17s. A rear admiral shot down in the aircraft for the navy. Today he will be flying in one of the texans that comes by early in the flyover. Westminster abbey. These are the themes that i want to photograph on one sunday afternoon. Another area that intrigued me was marvel are. On one sunday afternoon it was full of all. You must remember london was being bombed almost every night and this particular time. I was photographing these speakers that were addressing the crowds. Every speaker was speaking on a different subject, but the no one wased around hurt. The people and the audience were arguing back with the speakers. Just typical shots of how we passed the time waiting for dday. Most of the children who lived in england were sent out of the city. A lot of them had to remain behind. In spite of the war, they managed to find entertainment. I was rather surprised to see these children drinking at of Community Drinking cups. I like to take candid shots of the children so they did not notice me, but every once in while they did. We discovered st. Pauls cathedral had been hit several times but not bad. History. I have written history, but i did not expect to be so influenced by Something Like this book. I really had no sense of the crucial role chaplains played in world war ii. Indeed, i sort of had in my mind there were these chaplains floating around during the war, a lot of them on the home front in america in those 600 plus chapels that were built on the s and fortshe base all over the country. And then, when they went off on ships with the troops, they were sort of in the background. Maybe in tent hospitals. Maybe they were holding Worship Services when they could. And all of those things are true. But what i had no idea of was the heroism of these men. And in world war ii, it was only men that were chaplains. I have no idea of the crucial role they played in the war. Let me read to you a quotation from the commander of the 75th Infantry Division in world war ii.
