Authorities in Texas are investigating the death of Drill Sgt. Jessica Mitchell, found fatally shot on a San Antonio interstate on New Year s Day.
Police officers responding to a call of a stranded vehicle in the fast lane on Interstate 10 shortly after 2 a.m. local time found a white Dodge Challenger with multiple bullet holes to the driver s side door and window, San Antonio police said in a statement.

San Antonio is one of six finalist communities to host the headquarters for U.S. Space Command the unified combatant command responsible for commanding and controlling space operations by all our military forces.
For those of us who are familiar with the exceptional and diverse attributes of “Military City, USA,” San Antonio’s inclusion on the short list came as no surprise. While much has already been said about what makes San Antonio such a natural partner for Space Command, I would like to focus on two considerations that will be critical to the final location decision: (1) the practical matters of funding, building, manning, operating, and sustaining the command and (2) ensuring that it o ....

Pentagon Takes A Closer Look At Port San Antonio For Space Command Headquarters

Pentagon surveyors met with San Antonio officials this week to discuss the city’s bid to house U.S. Space Command. San Antonio is one of six finalists competing for its new headquarters.
Since May, the city has waged a public campaign to attract the unified command, which pulls from the different military branches and oversees operations in space. It’s provisionally headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and employs about 1,400 people.
In a virtual meeting Monday, Mayor Ron Nirenberg, City Manager Erik Walsh and other local officials took questions from a Pentagon site selection team about San Antonio’s candidacy, focusing on factors like its infrastructure, existing military missions, quality of life and community support. ....

An Air Force investigation into Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland’s jail found multiple failures in policies and procedures that contributed to the death of a suicidal airman held there last year.
