Letter to the Editor: Janie Dretler for select person

Letter to the Editor: Janie Dretler for select person
Glenn Pransky
Janie Dretler has done an admirable job for Sudbury as a selectperson, and we are fortunate to have her in this role. She has consistently researched issues thoroughly, sought input from different viewpoints and taken action needed to get things done that benefit our town.
Her leadership was key to overwhelming approval for a new senior/multipurpose center, overcoming opposition to acquiring the entire CSX rail trail corridor, passing new environmental bylaws and updating the Town Charter and the Master Plan.
In her role as chair of the select board, she has restored a reasonable and respectful dialogue where all viewpoints are heard, a welcome change! She has championed an open discussion on important issues, insuring that town residents have the information they need to participate in key decisions. She is passionate about Sudbury, and eager to do whatever she can to improve the lives of all ....

ANN ARBOR, MI Several sidewalk projects were approved across Ann Arbor during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
In the later half of the year, gaps in sidewalks will be filled on Barton Drive from Brede Place to Pontiac Trail, Boardwalk from Eisenhower Parkway to Oakbrook Drive, and Stimson Street from State Street to through the end of the gap, according to a resolution.
Council also approved $50,000 from the street, bridge and sidewalk millage to finance the project.
Voters in November 2020 approved a 0.2-mill tax proposal, which will help fill sidewalk gaps and provide a funding source specifically for this work in Ann Arbor. It is expected to raise about $1.3 million annually and cost $20 per year for the homeowner with a $200,000 market value and $100,000 taxable value. ....

Restaurants opening in Austin and Central Texas in 2021

Restaurants opening in Austin and Central Texas in 2021
Austin 360
After the worst year for restaurants and their workers in memory, I’m happy to put 2020 in our rearview mirror and start thinking about what 2021 might look like.
With good and exciting news in short supply, it’s nice to think about what the new year will bring with it.
This list of forthcoming restaurants won’t be as robust as in years past, because most restaurant owners will probably spend most of their energy on their current projects, trying to figure out how to bridge through the spring and early summer to what promises to be a much brighter fall.  ....

Concerns about speeding on Crescent Acres street

Residents of a Crescent Acres street are worried about cars driving dangerously fast in the area, and data from a new speed monitoring sign appears to add weight to their concerns.
Ward councillor Blake Edwards told Monday night’s council meeting the speed limit on Barton Drive is 40 km/hr, but the speed monitoring sign placed on the street registered drivers going much faster.
“I was shocked one of the vehicles was going 118 km/hr,” he told council. “That’s disgusting.”
Edwards said data gathered from the sign indicated around 30 per cent of cars were over the speed limit, but added he didn’t have a breakdown of whether most had exceeded it by just a few kilometers per hour, or a more significant amount. ....
