Increased gunplay in the vicinity of its home ground has forced the Barbados Cricket League (BCL) to run for cover.With the new season set to begin next month, BCL president Glyne St Hill today revealed that due to the escalation of gun violence in the Ivy, St Michael, they were seeking to relocate from the nearby Blenheim pasture, which has been their home ground for the past 40 years, to MTW in the Pine Basin.St Hill said the BCL wrote to the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith this week, requesting that the move be approved.The long-serving president said people were no longer willing to either come to Blenheim to watch BCL matches or use the venue for other purposes because they were in fear. ....
Lodge Road duly completed an emphatic victory by 71 runs over Bathsheba to take home the champions’ title of the Barbados Cricket League’s 2022, two-day competition which climaxed at Lears, St George yesterday. A strongly-built medium-pace bowler and lower-order batsman, Phillips played 15 first-class matches between 1983 and 1985. The Barbados Cricket League (BCL) may need the intervention of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) if it stands any chance of surviving, says former Barbados and West Indies opener the Most Honourable Desmond Haynes.Following the drastic deterioration from over one hundred teams to a mere 26 as of 2022, Haynes and a few others who passed through the BCL think that its primary means of survival is a partnership with the BCA.During an interview with Barbados TODAY, Haynes explained that the BCL has outlived that which it was designed to do because now cricketers gravitate towards the BCA’s competitions which for them are far more attractive. ....
