Worker temporarily blinded at HS2 site after laser shone in eyes


A worker was left temporarily blinded after a laser was shone in his eyes at an High Speed 2 (HS2) construction site.
The incident occurred last week at HS2’s Jones Hill Wood site in Wendover, Buckinghamshire.
The man - who works for a subcontractor and was operating plant equipment - was blinded for 15 minutes and needed hospital treatment.
According to Thames Valley Police, the man was standing next to an HGV when it is believed a green laser was shone towards him.
A police spokesperson said: He turned towards the light source, which then went into both of his eyes, causing his vision to be impaired and prevented him from working. ....

HS2 cleared to restart Chilterns work as judge lifts tree felling ban


HS2 Ltd has been cleared to resume work at the Jones Hill Wood High Speed 2 (HS2) site near Wendover in the Chilterns, after a judge lifted a court order to pause tree felling in the area.
Today a judge formally lifted the injunction which was preventing work at the site.
During a hearing yesterday, Justice Holgate said that none of the grounds of the [environmental] challenge are arguable and therefore the injunction must be discharged .
Last night, Mark Keir from Earth Protector Communities – which brought the challenge - said the group would appeal the ruling.
Keir tweeted: The judge announced his view on permission being refused with no reasons given in the short hearing. Our legal team meet early tomorrow morning to study the draft judgment and we plan to make an announcement about an urgent application to the Court of Appeal thereafter. ....
