A letter urging the Railway Ministry to take cognisance of serious flaws in the signalling system from February emerged after 275 people lost their lives in the Odisha train accident.
Several coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Bahanaga station in Odisha's Balasore after hitting a goods train. After some time, another train from Yeswanthpur to Howrah dashed into those derailed coaches resulting in the derailment of its 3-4 coaches.
The two trains that derailed were the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express. A goods train was also involved in the accident as a passenger train, after it derailed, collided with it.
