NIA arrests 17 SDPI and PFI leaders in connection with Bengaluru rioting case @NIA India National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested 17 SDPI and PFI leaders and activists for their involvement in the violent attack and large scale rioting in Bengaluru in August this year. The violence took place after a Facebook post by the nephew of Congress MLA AS Murthy. The case was originally registered as FIR in KG Halli Police Station on 12th August this year and it was later reregistered by NIA on 21st September.
NIA said, the investigation so far has revealed that the SDPI leaders - Md. New Delhi, Dec 22: The number of persons arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the Bengaluru riots case is now 187. 17 more persons have been arrested by the NIA in connection with the case.
The case pertains to a violent attack in Bengaluru on August 11 2020 following a Facebook post by Naveen, the nephew of Akhanda Srinivas Murthy, who is a Congress MLA from Pulakeshi Nagar.

The NIA has found that the SDPI leaders, Mohammad Sharieff, President, Bengaluru District SDPI, Imran Ahmed, President, KG Halli Ward, along with other senior leaders like Rubah Waqas, Shabbar Khan and Shaik Ajmal had conducted meetings at Thanissandra and KG Halli wards in Bengaluru on August 11 where they conspired, mobilised and led the crowd gathered at KG Halli Police station to attack the police personnel

BENGALURU : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested 17 Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI)/Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders and activists in the DJ Halli and KG Halli arson case (RC- 35/2020/NIA/DLI). SDPI is the political wing of the PFI. The investigation so far has revealed that SDPI leaders Mohammed Sharieff, president, Bengaluru district, and president, KG Halli ward, Imran Ahmed, along with senior SDPI leaders Rubah Waqas, Shabbar Khan and Shaikh Ajmal had conducted meetings at Thanisandra and KG Halli wards on the evening of August 11, in which they conspired, mobilised and thereafter, led the crowd to KG Halli police station
NIA sleuths on Monday said they arrested 17 persons, including local members of Social Democratic Party of India and Popular Front of India, in connection with the KG Halli-DJ Halli riots in Bengaluru on August 11.
Probe revealed that SDPI’s Mohammed Sharieff, president, Bengaluru district and Imran Ahmed, president, KG Halli ward, and others had allegedly conspired, mobilised and led the crowd to attack policemen, causing damage to public property and police vehicles.
Similarly, accused Abbas, SDPI president of Nagawara ward, too mobilised large crowds at KG Halli police station through his associates Azil Pasha, Irfan Khan and Akbar Khan. “Probe also revealed use of social media channels like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to spread terror among people,” the NIA said in the statement.
