Home Base Heroes: Living Legends of the South Texas Negro League Join in as we host 17 former players from the historic South Texas Negro League! These local legends will be sharing their experiences playing for hometown teams like the San Antonio Black Sox and Denver Heights Bears during the 1960s and 70s, a time in which game scores shared headline space with the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement. This rich discussion will also include a meet & greet with the players, a raffle for tickets to a San Antonio Missions baseball game, and a food truck serving hot dogs and burgers (of course!).

Twenty-one pupils circled 85-year-old Gloria Lampley-Simmons like ripples in a pond.
Sitting in chairs spaced 6 feet apart, each student mimicked the yoga instructor as she tilted her head, rolled her shoulders and clasped her palms together as if in prayer.
“Just do what you can,” she said softly, as the sound of tinkling piano keys flowed from a speaker. “It’s no competition. Close your eyes, relax and focus.”
Lithe and limber, Simmons hosts free yoga sessions at the Ella Austin Community Center gym on North Pine. In addition to 10:30 a.m. chair yoga classes Mondays and Wednesdays, she hosts mat yoga on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
