Watch. First alert meteorologist erica grow has the latest on our yellow alert. Bruce, the severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 00. You can see the line of thunderstorms that is moving toward the beltway on doppler 9000. Severe thunderstorms already rolled through the hagerstown area. Look at how the lightning strikes have really diminished, though, in the past hour. We have practically no lightning strikes anymore. Thats a good indication that that particular thunderstorm cell is losing its energy. I think thats the reason also that the Severe Thunderstorm Warning was not extended for that particular thunderstorm cell. Everything is moving at about 20 to 25 miles per hour. Even though we dont have much in the way of lightning anymore, we still have very heavy rain and the heaviest downpours are just starting to make their way into the city of frederick. On immigration reform. Im bruce johnson. Thank you for joining us. Severe storms caused flooding on local roadways capitols. Dark clouds formed quickly. Frequent lightning lit up the capitol dome. On the ground the storms knocked down trees and power lines and forced authorities to close some roads. Especially in the bethesda and potomac areas, where crews responded to a couple water rescues. Hank silverberg is at the intersection of bradley boulevard. Reporter the water trapped two people in one car. They had to be rescued. Necessity had to be pulled out by the Fire Department swift rescue boats. The water came close to overflowing a bridge and knocking down some power li nes. They had to move in and shorr up the lines and that means power outages. The potomac area appears to have been hit the hardest. Trees were knocked down, blocking roadways. Lygh water is an e issuin low ing areas. If you are traveling the roadways tonight, slow down, watch for emergency vehicles, and downed trees
