Apr 23, 2021 CHILDREN TO GET MODIFIED TOY CARS: Dozens of volunteers will come together from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield, to modify ride-on toy cars for 22 children with mobility impairments. Volunteer electricians will modify the wiring, while volunteer adaptive technology professionals and physical and occupational therapists will help with seating modifications. Students from MCCTC are designing “license plates” and decals and helping to assemble the cars. This is the sixth year of modifying cars. This year’s event is sponsored by Go Baby Go Youngstown, the Magic of Michael Foundation and the Hirschbeck Family.

The seeing eye Feb 26, 2021 FOOD GIVEAWAY: A bagged food giveaway will be 9 to 11 a.m. today at Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., Youngstown. The giveaway is open to the public. FOOD GIVEAWAY: Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4490 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, will host its food pantry giveaway 2 to 5 p.m. today at the parish for anyone needing assistance. BAND BOOSTER FUNDRAISER: Girard High School Band Boosters are hosting two fundraisers. The first will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Niles Nutrition, 815 Youngstown Warren Road, No. 16. For every college basketball team combo, $2 will be donated to the band. The second fundraiser is called March Madness and beginning Monday there will be nightly drawings for tickets that are being sold for $10 each. If your name is called, you get the cash prize for the night it is pulled. Tickets can be purchased on the booster’s event Facebook page or during the Niles Nutrition fundraiser.

City schools food distribution moved | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 3, 2021 DAY CHANGE: The Youngstown City School District’s food distribution this week has been moved to Thursday. Food distribution will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the same school sites: East, Chaney, Martin Luther King, Harding, Wilson, Williamson, Volney and Paul C. Bunn. The change is to allow Youngstown City School District staff to begin to get vaccinations against COVID-19. Wednesday is the regular distribution day. LIBERTY FOOD PANTRY: The Liberty community pantry at the Churchill United Methodist Church will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday or until the food runs out. The pantry is for residents of Liberty and families who have students in the Liberty school district. Call 330-759-0118.
