Two hurricanes are the big stories this morning. One hitting the caribbean. The other impacting our coastline. Meteorologist bill henley is tracking them both along with what to expect today in your neighborhood. Good mornin good morning. Maria is a monster in the caribbean. Were dealing with a weakening storm at the jersey shore and delaware beaches. Were seeing rainfall. There is not heavy. Well see scattered showers this morning and on and off rainfall this afternoon. Its going to feel like its coming down a lot heavier because the wind is still wrapping around the storm. Thats a 75mileanhour wind blowing in the storm. The winds, hurricaneforce winds, stay offshore. We could see gusts top think 40 Miles Per Hour along the coast topping 40 Miles Per Hour along the coastline. Wind speeds, 16 Miles Per Hour in wildwood. ....
This storm is smaller in size but its based on the central pressure. I have to tell you it was st. Croix and the islands around and puerto rico itself that bore the brunt of this huge storm. Look at the eye. It falls apart as it moves across the mountains. On the other side of puerto rico there it is. The eye is trying to reform. That means this storm is trying to restrengthen. Lets look at maria. It will be expected to restrengthen to 130 to 156mileanhour winds. Its headed toward the turks and caicos. It will graze the northern side of the Dominican Republic and then north along the eastern coast of the u. S. And it is the tenth most intense atlantic hurricane on record with a minimum pressure of 906 millibars, 175mileanhour winds. That was last night. This was an incredible storm. This is what it looked and sounded like when maria hit puerto rico early yesterday morning. The fury of the winds ripped palm trees and blew down doors in the rain flooded streets. Katy, local people have been left unable to contact their loved ones on the island. You can imagine how nerve wracking it is for them. Some of the images are just jaw dropping, the amount of damage this storm has caused. Its leaving people in our area incredibly nervous because they cannot confirm if their loved ones on the island are okay.
