peace pact: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma outlines electoral criteria; says only residents of 200-300 years eligible for 106 assembly seats

Assam Chief Minister Biswa Sarma announced that only Assamese people who have been residing in Assam for 200 to 300 years will be elected from nearly 106 assembly seats out of 126 constituencies following the delimitation and accord with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). The Election Commission of India conducted the delimitation, resulting in 96 seats secured for Assamese people.

The chief minister said that there will be rehabilitation of the ULFA cadres. Over 10000 people and security forces were killed during the ULFA movement. ULFA will be disbanded, camps will be disbanded and weapons deposited, 726 cadres will be rehabilitated. Nine families of those ULFA cadres who were missing or died in Bhutan will be rehabilitated with government jobs.”
