Lady Giants earn win over East Peoria By Kevin Wright/Daily Ledger CANTON Despite a lackluster second quarter where the Canton Lady Giants scored only six points, they came out strong in the third, both, offensively and defensively. The Lady Giants forced a number of Lady Raider turnovers and dropped 19 points in the quarter to help them pull away in their 47-37 victory over East Peoria Thursday night. Bree Williamson started the game off for the Lady Giants with a long three. Ashley Groves then dropped in a bucket which was then followed with a free throw by Williamson. Ella Wheeler then connected on a short jumper to put Canton up 8-6 with just under three minutes to play in the quarter. Tatym Lamprecht of East Peoria then tied the game at eight with a basket of her own. Ashlyn Zedric then dropped two free throws which was followed by Groves who added her second bucket of the quarter to give Canton the 12-8 lead at the end of the first. ....
Lady Giants fall to Morton By Kevin Wright/Daily Ledger CANTON The look of the players is different, the feel of the Gym, the atmosphere, all have changed, but despite all that basketball is back at Alice Ingersoll Gym. Unfortunately, the return was not kind to coach Jessica Jones and her Canton Lady Giants team as they fell to the Lady Potters of Morton by 45-32 score. Canton got down early in this contest and could never recover. In the first quarter Canton could only muster 1 of 10 shooting from the floor. The only bucket coming from Ashlyn Zedric who dropped a three early in the quarter. Morton meanwhile hit 7 of 12 shots for the quick 20-3 lead at the end of the first. ....
