Denounce 'tribalism and clanism', Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister tells students

Our Reporter Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, on Saturday called on the student community to come together and denounce ‘tribalism and clanism’, which he said were destroying the fabric of Naga society. He opined that tribalism and clanism had no place in the 21st century. “Clan system was used for the convenience of inter-marriage by the forefathers and therefore should not be used for creating division,” he said while citing the existence of clanism in student body elections and higher levels as well. Patton said this at the Dimapur Lotha Students’ Union (DLSU) golden jubilee celebration at Dimapur Government College auditorium on Saturday. Nagaland: Lotha Students' Union felicitates meritorious students

Our Correspondent Wokha, July 15 (EMN): Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) felicitated meritorious students of classes 10 and 12 from the Lotha community in the recently declared NBSE results during a programme held at Wokha District Village Council Chairmen’s Association (WDVCCA) hall on July 15. Speaking at the programme, chairman of Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung, felt that the present education system has to be more of vocational rather than only learning textbook knowledge. He stated that students need not only obtain various education degrees but also focus beyond textbook knowledge, which are job oriented to address unemployment problems. Lotha Students' Union apprises Bhandari ADC of repeated farmhouse destruction by Assam police

Our Correspondent Wokha, May 23 (EMN): The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) met with the ADC of Bhandari, Rohit Singh on May 21 in connection with the repeated destruction of farmhouses in Yimpang village area by the Assam police. During the meeting, the administration was told that the student body would continue to extend its support toward protecting their ancestral land, it was informed. It added that Singh told the gathering that the administration had informed its counterpart in Assam both verbally and through a letter about the repeated destroying of structures far away from disputed area belt (DAB) by the Assam police and compensate the loss incurred, as well as reconstruction the building. ADC informed the LSU that a DC-level meeting will be held soon to discuss the Yimpang incident and assure a positive outcome, it was informed.
