Residents who showed up this morning to collect his belongings and salvage what was left of his house. Some of the rescue squad workers had children at child care. It looked kind of bad. Finally they told us our house wasnt here anymore. We came and here it is here. A county spokesperson says damage assessments are still under way and she couldnt provide a dollar amount for what was destroyed. County Officials Say that this area is still very dangerous with a lot of downed power lines and loose debris. All roads are open, but leaders are asking people to stay home and dont travel through the most affected areas right now. County schools will remain closed tomorrow and some parts of town actually do have electricity right now. Some businesses, including two pharmacies. A steeple that was perched atop the roof now sets in ruin about a quarter mile away. The churchs brick facade was peeled away. Stained glass windows are mangled and twisted. Members of the Appomattox County High School Football Team showed up at the church early thursday morning to help clean up. All of the kids volunteered and said, coach, come pick us up. Come get us. Gusty winds will continue today with mountain snow showers. A reported funnel cloud in appomattox has killed at least one person, and injured several others. 20 homes have been destroyed, and more than 100 are damaged. Wdbj7s Amanda Kenney is at one of two shelters in appomatox where volunteers are waiting to help victims. Kimberly, the appotmatox Community Shelter has cots, blankets, and pillows to keep victims comfortable. Just like the rest of the town, the shelter does not have electrcity. Theres no heat here, but the lights are staying on thanks to a generator. Wednesdays storm caused Severe Damage throughout the county.
