Lower Hutt hit-and-run: Sentencing for man who knocked down woman at pedestrian crossing delayed at eleventh hour

Anna Chesterfield has two young children. She was injured in a hit-and-run in Lower Hutt in January.
The judge acknowledged that the victim was in court and had been expected to read her victim impact statement, but granted the application for an adjournment. However he noted that Harris’ sentence options were “limited”.
Harris had pleaded guilty at a court appearance in February to charges of careless driving causing injury, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, and driving while forbidden. He will now be sentenced on September 3.
According to the police summary of facts, Harris had been using his phone moments before he struck Chesterfield, who had taken six steps into a marked pedestrian crossing. He said he didn t see her until his grey Mitsubishi Diamante was at the crossing. ....

The sentencing of a man who drove into a Lower Hutt woman on a pedestrian crossing leaving her seriously injured has been delayed once more.

Jade Mark Harris, 28, earlier pleaded guilty in Hutt Valley District Court to driving carelessly causing injury, not stopping after an accident and driving while forbidden.
The victim, mother-of-two Anna Chesterfield, was crossing the road in January when she was struck and flung about 15 metres down the road. ....

Anna Chesterfield was hit on a pedestrian crossing last month by a driver who was texting on his phone.
Driver, Jade Harris, panicked and sped off, leaving her seriously injured on the road.
He has pleaded guilty in Lower Hutt District Court this morning, and will be sentenced in May.
Chesterfield says his actions have changed her life forever.
She says everything s become harder, and now she s learning to walk again, which is really difficult. ....
