After 65 years of smoking weed, Tommy Chong has returned to the format he started with at the age of 17: a joint.
Cannabis “is my life’s work,” the cannabis advocate, comedian and actor told Benzinga during a virtual press conference Monday, showing off a homemade bamboo joint holder he uses to cool the smoke.
On Wednesday, Chong is launching his brand of pre-rolls in Michigan with in-state production partner MKX Brands in a dozen strains at a starting lineup of 20 dispensaries.
The first production run of the pre-rolls is sold out and a second batch is in production, with plans to add more dispensary locations where Chong’s pre-rolls will be available, said MKX Brands CEO Sam Kaoud. ....

Promoter wants to bring marijuana music festival to Niles, says it could be 'mini-Woodstock'


NILES — A promoter from Lansing hopes to bring a cannabis music festival to Niles in July or September, a first for the city, where people could buy and consume marijuana.
Organizers have told officials that it could draw 5,000 to 10,000 people across the two-day event, a thought that inspires city council members in terms of business and attention for Niles. Council member John DiCostanzo said the 21-and-older event could be a “mini-Woodstock.”
But the council also echoed city Administrator Ric Huff’s desire to be “conservatively cautious” on how big it gets, at least this year, since “there are a lot of unknowns and a lot of opportunities for it to morph into something that’s not expected.” ....

The Ann Arbor Hash Bash will be returning this year as a variety-show-style production, free to the public, featuring activists and entertainers from around the state and country. The Hash Bash Planning Committee is excited to announce former Fox 2 News Anchor, Anqunette Sarfoh, as Master of Ceremonies. The speakers lineup for this year’s Hash Bash which will include Attorney General Dana Nessel, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Senator Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor), former Detroit Lion, Calvin Johnson, and former Detroit Red Wing, Darren McCarty.
The event will focus on commemorating accomplishments major and minor but focuses also on the need for federal legalization and repairing the harms inflicted by the drug war. The 2021 Hash Bash Committee is partnering with businesses to make a successful broadcast and benefit our two designated Bash charities, the John Sinclair Foundation and the Michigan Cannabis Prisoner Freedom Fund. ....
