Scientists Examine Evacuation Timelines For Future Auckland Volcanic Eruptions

Scientists are working to understand how long it might
take for people to move out of harm’s way ahead of a
future eruption of the Auckland Volcanic Field.
“The
next eruption in the Auckland Volcanic Field could happen
anywhere in the existing field, either on the land, or in
the sea, so estimating how many people might be impacted
carries a lot of uncertainty,” says the study’s lead
researcher Alec Wild, PhD candidate from the University of
Auckland.”

Cardigan pop-up restaurant to help those who've hit hard times


A CARDIGAN woman who runs her own pop-up catering business is setting up a soup kitchen project in town to help provide food to those struggling with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Angela Doherty usually operates her Elbows & Crumbs pop-up restaurant from her home but has secured kitchen facilities at 4CG to launch the scheme which will run every Wednesday.
“I have been talking to a lot of people out there whose lives have really changed financially since the pandemic started,” said Angela.
“They are just about getting by with help from the foodbank. The foodbank has never been busier but speaking to some of the suppliers, there is fresh food that has to be used straight away otherwise it has to be thrown out. ....
