Air New Zealand is dipping its toe back into the pond of international travel, announcing its return to destinations not serviced since Aotearoa s borders were closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The airline s updated schedule begins on October 31 and sees the return of services to Tokyo and Taipei, along with 12 per week to North America.
Interestingly, Air NZ has also announced a service between Christchurch and Singapore operating five times a week from November 30, which may be an indication of where the airline believes future travel bubbles may open. However, the airline is playing down any speculation of a return to relative normality. ....

The driver is now in police custody.
Emergency crews were called to a petrol station in Palmerston North on Sunday after a car crashed into a petrol pump, causing a small fire.
Police said officers were responding to a report of a family harm incident on Russell St shortly after 9:30am when the incident happened.
During this time we became aware of a vehicle that left the address which subsequently crashed into a petrol pump at a petrol station on Tremain Avenue, a spokesperson said.
There was a small fire which was put out by Fire and Emergency staff, no one was injured and the man is in police custody. ....

More women are taking their shot in the Army.
The number of female Army soldier recruits has jumped 25 percent in three years, with another 15 women training to become Army officers.
We re becoming platoon commanders so that we understand what our soldiers will be going through when they re out on deployment, officer cadet Teagan Andrews-Paul told Newshub.
Andrews-Paul, 19, and Elese Russell, 23, are just two of the current officer cadet platoon in the middle of a 15-day exercise in the middle of Waiouru Military Camp.
In one scenario the platoon of 37, both men and women, came under fire from five enemy soldiers just 200 metres away. Their job was to hold their position while they figured out a way to flank them. ....
