Causing temperatures to plummet from the upper midwest all the way to the gulf coast. There are blizzard warnings in minnesota, south dakota, and iowa. By late yesterday, there were whiteout conditions in some areas, making travlt treacherous. Most schools in minnesota are closed today as are the chicago schools. The windchill there could reach 40 below today. And the cold and snow caused multiple crashes in michigan. The National Weather service said most of the midwest will feel colder than barrow, alaska, today. Eric fisher, chief meteorologist at our boston station wbz told jeff glor the cold will extend from north to south. Unbelievable cold. A lot of wind. Not a lot of falling snow with that blizzard warning. Its in red on the map. Gusts of 50 miles per hour. Lots of snowing and drifting snow and windchills as cold as 50 below zero. That gets into lifethreatening territory. A time we have to stay indoors as much as possible. Timing out some of the temperatures, feel like 20 below
