Hillsboro Garden Club April meeting Submitted story President Shelly Rayburn welcomed everyone present to the April 27 meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club. The members stood for the Pledge of Allegiance. The spring auction began with Rayburn serving as auctioneer with assistance from Judith Stinvender and Jennifer West. The bidding was fast and furious with beautiful plants galore. After the auction there was a break for refreshments provided by Teresa Cudkowicz and West. A short business meeting followed. Fourteen members and one guest were present, each answering the roll call question, “What is your best gardening tip?” Many interesting tips were shared, such as using castor oil to get rid of moles. ....

This should be true across all geographic regions, in posts both large and small,” the Leadership Council for Women in National Security (LCWINS), a group of current and former national security professionals, and 30 former female ambassadors said in a letter. Piper Campbell, former ambassador to Mongolia and the U.S. mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said the timing of the letter was to influence a selection process that, to the groups’ understanding, was still ongoing. ....

Photo by Toubibe/Pixabay March 11 (UPI) Adults who suffer head injuries in their 50s or younger produce lower-than-expected scores on cognitive tests at age 70, a study published Thursday by the Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology found. Although head injuries do not appear to contribute to Alzheimer s disease-related brain damage, they may make people more vulnerable to dementia symptoms, the researchers said. Advertisement Seventy-year-olds who had experienced a serious head injury 15 or more years earlier on average scored 46 on 93-point cognitive tests for attention and quick thinking, lower than the 48 for those without a history of head injuries, the data showed. ....
