Deputy jumped into deep water to save another person who was also drowning, but that deputy drowned himself. Its not clear if the person he was trying to rescue also drowned. We have lost one of our family members, he was hard working and we are in close contact with the family to get through this. Reporter and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department released a statement showing signs of heroism but some details are quite saddening. Deputy Carlos Francis was a standout Football Player in 2005. On friday he died trying to save the life of his sisters friend. They were on paddle boards. His sister and her friend were on kayaks. Her friend tried to help and when deputy stepped in to help but didnt make it to them in time and fell unconscious. Everyone in his party survived. He is being hailed a hero for putting his life on the line to save another. Deputy francis was with the Sheriffs Office since december of 2011.
