Since the Helderberg Baby Saver (HBS) was launched in 2014 thirteen babies have been safely relinquished through it. The first six babies came in over a period of 8 years with the last seven being placed in the Saver since March of last year.
“Every year Patch receives up to three calls from various corporate organisations looking to dedicate their 67 minutes visiting our child clients, handing out items to them and taking photos. After explaining that we are not a safe house and due to the nature of the crime that we specialise in, we need to protect the identities of our child clients, we are overlooked and asked to refer another NPO which is exceptionally disappointing for us.”
A newborn girl was given a chance at life after she was placed in the Helderberg Baby Saver at the weekend – the second cherub for this year and the 12th since the establishment of the device in Somerset West in 2014.
