About an at&t and verizon have said we ve given you all the time you need to upgrade your equipment, we delayed multiple times, we want to go so back in november, during this whole thing, they actually agreed to lower the power of the antennas near airports so that if there was any potential interfering with altimeters, they wouldn t do it. that wasn t enough, and they were asked again, in the beginning of january, this mont to please delay, at first they said no both of them. then they said okay and delayed for another two weeks. tomorrow was the big day, the day they were going to light it up and then today, the airlines the big boys, delta and america airlines and some of the supply chain people, fedex and u.s. airways sent a letter saying this is going to cause chaos, don t turn it on, don t do it. didn t hear anything for a little while until today, they basically said okay, what we ....

U.s. carriers, including delta, just acknowledging that as they go forward they don t know all the answers yet and they re wondering whether the entire 5g network could pose a threat or risk, and so they re taking that as a precaution. as for you and me and anybody else who flies today, no problems. we have very few flight cancellations nationwide, the weather s pretty good nationwide, so this 5g rollout is really not affecting flights today. we don t know how long 5g will be turned off at airports. the faa needs to do that deep dive to determine whether there s any vulnerability or not. that could take weeks or months until they look at every single airport, every runway, and also all the various makes and models of altimeters that are out there in various planes to see whether any of them are vulnerable. so this is going to take a little bit of time, chris. let me try to understand this from your perspective, captain because the argument i ve heard or one key argument i ve heard is ....

reporter: the 5g signals could cause interruptions to airplanes altimeters which are crucial for pilots during landing. at&t and verizon, which spent billions of dollars for these frequency, and the faa have yet to figure out how this will all begin. with just two days until at&t and verizon go live with their 5g coverage, the faa is getting very little cooperation from the major phone carriers. and overnight, the world s largest pilots union backed a top airline trade group calling to delay the rollout of 5g near certain airports. it comes after at&t and verizon declined a request from federal transportation officials to postpone the launch of their 5g signals for up to two weeks. the faa has warned this next generation of cell service could ....
