And verizon for months about at&t. ti verizon have said we ve given you all the time you need to upgrade your equipmentt. we ve delayed multiple times. we want to, w go so back in november during this whole thing, they actually agreedd to lower the power of the antennas near airports sort that if there was any potential of them interfering with altimeters, they wouldn t doterf that apparently wasn t enough and they were asked again in the beginning of january this month to pleaseg of delay t first they said no, both of them at&t verizon said no and then they said okay. and they delayed for another two weeks. ow and basically tomorrow was the big day, the day they were going to light it up and that sy today the airlines, the big boysai, delta and americannd airlines and some of the supply chain people, fedex and us airways all sent a letterng saying this is going to cause chaos. don t turn it on . don t do it. we didn t hear anything from at&t and verizon for a little while until today. ....

Worried enough about potential interference. it would not allow pilots to rely on altimeters coming into big airports. the question now, of course, is how long will at&t and verizon agree not to turn on their 5g sites, and what kind of potential interference are we looking at? and why is it that the united states was concerned about interference despite the fact that 40 countries around the world have already deployed 5g technology and have not seen interference with their aircraft? now, the aviation industry says, listen, you re comparing apples to oranges here. in europe they operate at a different level of power, and the antenna are focused in a different direction than they would be here in the united states. they, the faa and aviation community, believe much more research needs to be done to find out whether there is, in fact, any sort of risk posed by 5g. bottom line is that this hour, verizon and at&t have postponed their decision to roll out 5g ....

Still flights being cancelled and will cause a big inconvenience for folks. a lot of tension internationally, as well. pete, thank you. joining us to talk about this is captain dennis an american airlines 737 pilot and spokesperson for the allied pilots association. captain, thank you for joining us. you have called the planned rollout of 5g near airports reckless and unsafe and puts passengers at risk. for those of us not as well versed into the altimeters and how that works, explain why you say so. certainly the step forward i think delta mentioned that is in the right direction protecting some of our airports. now we re looking at which airports. i just received last night from american airlines, my aircraft the 737 25 pages about the potential effects of 5g interference to my aircraft if i go into a 5g airport. we re looking what airports are protected and which are not and ....

It is voluntarily deferring the placement or turning on, i should say, the actual 5g cell cites near airports. as you know, the airline ceos have warned that if, in fact, these sites go live at midnight tonight around airports, they are very concerned about the possibility that the 5g sites could interfere with a plane s altimeter, which is critical in landing. and as a result of that concern, the faa has said that they will not allow planes to use altimeters coming into key runways that are near 5g sites, because of the possibility of interference. they have now been under tremendous pressure, the white house under tremendous pressure from the airlines to do something, step in and stop the deployment of 5g and turning these systems on around airports. so now, at&t, it would be appear, is going to not voluntarily turn on its 5g sites around airports. the rest of its 5g system will go on live tonight around ....

reporter: the issue, 5g operates on a frequency range very close to that used by the altimeters. so as we can see, they can coexist, if they stay within their own lane. reporter: separating those frequency highways requires a buffer zone. europe has no reports of altimeter interference. verizon and at&t insist the u.s. buffer zone is even bigger. we want to enable 5g, c-band deployment, make no mistake about that. but we ve got to do in a way so that aviation safety is not compromised. reporter: since tuesday, the ....
