Seven suspects were arrested Tuesday by Santa Barbara County sheriff s deputies in connection with a string of reported theft-related crimes in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara and Goleta. 
At 6:30 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of La Mesa Plaza and Santa Rosa Lane in Carpinteria, according to sheriff s spokeswoman Raquel Zick.
When sheriff s deputies arrived at the scene, they contacted Jason Orth, 23, of Carpinteria “near the vehicle that was not registered to him,” Zick said. “Deputies in the Santa Barbara area checked with the registered owner in the 5300 block of Traci Drive and found that the vehicle had been stolen but not yet repo ....

Re: Nicholas Oatway’s Feb. 19 Op-Ed, “Open hearts to make Chaparral property ‘alive’”:
I found Mr. Oatway s Op-Ed calling for open hearts to make Chaparral property alive to be inspiring and visionary. The Ojai Unified School District trustees should give serious consideration to Mr. Oatway s proposal, as I stated in an email to Shelley Griffen, trustee of my district. 
I encourage other residents interested in the redevelopment of the Chaparral property to make similar requests. Local architect Oatway s vision seems much more compatible with the “Ojai way” than the site plan proposed by an outside firm. ....

Centenarian Wilma Areta Coke is being remembered in a memorial service today, March 13, which started at 10:30 a.m. outside the Ojai United Methodist Church (120 Church Road), and there wil be a Zoom memorial for her at the same time.
