Scientists working on a ground-breaking Covid-19 medical study have issued an urgent call to people in Lancashire who caught the virus to donate blood at a special ‘pop up’ centre.
To encourage more people to join the study, a temporary centre at the Legacy Preston International Hotel on Marsh Lane will open its doors to volunteers on Friday.
If participants don’t wish to travel, they also have the option of booking a home visit with a nurse.
The unique GenOMICC Covid-19 study analyses the genes of people who have had the virus to discover why some experienced no symptoms while others became extremely ill. ....

Ellesmere Port girl with rare heart condition has uplifting art go on display

AN Ellesmere Port youngster with a rare heart condition has had her uplifting artwork go on display.
Rays of Sunshine, a children’s charity that brightens the lives of seriously ill children across the UK by granting their wishes and providing ongoing support, launched a stunning virtual children’s art gallery that displays bespoke artwork created by children who are all living with a serious or life-limiting illness.
One of the children displaying their artwork is Alexandra Williams, aged 11.
Alexandra suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome and has had to endure a pacemaker operation and regular hospital visits.
Her wish is currently on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. ....

power. christian fisher has the latest from falls church. reporter: we worked saturday and sunday. the sound of chainsaws echoed across this falls church neighborhood. not the most welcome sound on a monday morning, unless you are one of the unlucky homeowners who took a direct hit during saturday s storms. there is a tree behind the house and the top got sheared off. reporter: a big branch is still dangling on the edge of charlie moore s roof. storm took out about ten trees on his street, including one still covering the tennis courts. but this is a big improvement from two days ago. i couldn t drive in. all the power lines were down on the sidewalk, blocking the street. looks like a little microburst came through here. reporter: for three crews like aaa tree service they are on day three of near continuous clean up. sometimes we work through the night. we have to complete the job. reporter: this tree s all on city property, but not anymore. you see this ....
