I think oftentimes the answer to that depends on whether the candidate thinks that he or she has a chance at winning those states in the general election too, so even once the primary is settled if there are competitive states, swing states left on the primary calendar, thats great reason for them to get additional candidate visits, get additional political attention. On the other hand states that are never going to be in contention, states that are firmly red or firmly blue for the general election, they wont get as much attention. They wont expect as much. A state Like Washington state would not have expected too much in terms of political attention or a hard fought contest on the republican side of the race. John kasich quit the race may 4th. Washington state held its primary 20 days later on may 24th. So trump was essentially standing alone in the washington president ial primary. He obviously won the primary by a mile but that was no surprise because he was the only candidate left
