The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory running through Wednesday, July 27th. This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of Southern Illinois, Southwest Indiana, Western Kentucky, and Southern Missouri. This includes the counties of Jefferson, Wayne IL, Edwards, Wabash, Perry, Franklin, Hamilton, White, Jackson, Williamson, Saline, Gallatin, Union, Johnson, Pope, and Hardin in Southern Illinois. Afternoon heat index values will climb above 100 over most of the area Friday, and then over 105 throughout the region Saturday and Sunday. Portions of the region may continue to experience heat index readings above 100 early to mid-next week. On and off chances of thunderstorms are forecast Sunday through Wednesday. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns. Wayne County Farm Bureau Manager Doug Anderson says the group is finalizing plans for its 100th Annual Meeting. The meeting is scheduled to be held on March 3rd at 5:30 at the Fairfield First Christian Church, and he says there will be several unique attractions for the centennial celebration. The keynote speaker for the night will be Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert. Appearing on the Community Connection last week, he also said the county farm bureau, FNB, Citizens National Bank, and the Wayne/Edwards Soil and Water Conservation District will partner together for a Cover Crop Coffee Shop on February 3rd at Little Prairie Christian Church near Albion. People should RSVP for that event by January 27th by calling the Farm Bureau or Soil and Water Conservation offices. The meeting is free to attend. The Edwards County Board of Education met last night. It accepted the resignation of K-12 Principal Preston Nelson at the end of the month and voted to employ Interim Principal C
